About
Georgina Odaibo is a Professor of Virology and a 3-term Head of the Department of Virology, University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria, with over 30 years of teaching/research experience. Her journey as a Virologist started in 1994 when she obtained her master's degree in Virology from the UI. She was employed Lecturer II in 1999 after her Ph.D. and progressed through the ranks to Professor in 2013. She was an Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics AIDS Foundation Research Fellow, at Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwepen, Belgium; a visiting scientist at the Biomedical Research Institute, Georg-Speyer Haus, Germany. She trained in Biomedical/Biobehavioral Research Administration and Development at the National Institute for Health (NIH), USA. Georgina was PI and Co-Investigator of several research grants, including the NIH funded Medical Education Partnership Initiative Nigeria (MEPIN, $2,000,000/yearX5years), NIH funded UI- MEPI Junior faculty research training ($600,000/yearX5years). Currently, she is the PI of the STRIPEN-HIV program supported by HRSA through University of California, San Francisco; the in-country AFREhealth Scientist and Co-PI for the MasterCard foundation funded Pharmacovigilance Project in Nigeria; and the Africa CDC MPox projects. Professor Odaibo is currently the Virology Lab and Containment Officer at the WHO country office, Nigeria. She has supervised 12 Ph.D. Dissertations, and is one of the topmost Virologists in Nigeria and Africa. Georgina Odaibo has published over 130 peer reviewed articles.
